How to boost your globe tattoo broadband signal | Tutorial

Written By Admin on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 | 10:45 PM

What is the Default Network Setting of my Globe Tattoo Broadband?
Default setting is WCDMA Preferred. When in WCDMA Preferred, the USB dongle can shift between GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA signals

Should I adjust the default network setting of my Globe Tattoo Broadband?
If your Globe Tattoo Broadband consistently receives 3G signals, then you should adjust the default network setting to get better speeds and stability.

When should I adjust to this setting?
Make the adjustment only when you’re sure that your Globe Tattoo Broadband receives 3G signals.

What setting should I adjust for better broadband speeds and signal stability?
Adjust the Default Network Setting from “WCDMA Preferred” to “WCDMA Only.” When the Default Network Setting is in “WCDMA Only,” the dongle will only shift between 3G and HSDPA signals thus giving you better broadband speeds and signal stability.

How do you adjust Network settings?
Once the GUI is installed in your computer and launched, go to

TOOLS> OPTIONS> NETWORK> NETWORK TYPE,

choose WCDMA Only

Will I need to manually switch settings to look for a signal if I adjust from WCDMA Preferred to WCDMA Only?
Once you shift between settings, the dongle will automatically detect the available signals based on the setting you opted for.

On WCDMA Only, USB dongle defaults to 3G/HSDPA signals only.

On WCDMA preferred, USB dongle will search for either GPRS, EDGE, 3G or HSDPA. Whichever proves to be the strongest signal available in the area.

What is APN?
APN stand for Access Point Name

Why is the APN relevant to me?
Wrong APN Settings will not allow you to connect to the internet using your
Globe Tattoo Broadband.

What is the default APN?

Alvin Garcia aka 'Boy Pasay" Arrested for selling Globe Wimax

Written By Admin on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 | 11:17 PM

A series of entrapment operations recently conducted by police and Globe Telecom security personnel resulted in the arrest of three individuals involved in the illegal sale of WIMAX modems.

Arrested in the initial entrapment operation was Alvin Garcia, also known as Boy Pasay Wimax, a resident of Merville Km, 12 Access Road, Baranggay 20,1 Zone 20 in Pasay City. A follow-up operation at his residence led to the seizure of 4 Globe WIMAX modems, a computer set and around 100 pieces of Globe Sims, which are apparently used by the suspect to clone or reconfigure Sim cards for unlimited data surfing.

Police authorities also recovered from him his personal phone which showed various transactions of WIMAX selling activities confirming he is indeed Boy Pasay Wimax.

A follow-up operation after Garcia's arrest led to the apprehension of Ericson Cagara, a resident of Block 5 Lot 3 Phase 2 Topaz Street, Celina Homes, Camarin Caloocan City. He was arrested after he contacted Garcia with intention of buying hacked WIMAX modems. One unit was recovered from him.

A third entrapment operation led to the arrest of Sohayli Gagaso, a resident of Maharlika Village in Taguig. He had also sought a meeting with Garcia with intention of buying Globe WIMAX modems.

"We are relieved that the illegal sale of Globe WIMAX modems in Pasay City had been put to an end," said lawyer Froilan Castelo, Head of the Corporate and Legal Services Group.

"We would like to appeal to our subscribers to bring to our attention any suspicious offers that they may receive concerning the sale of supposed WIMAX modems," Castelo stressed, noting that certain criminal elements had utilized popular social media site Facebook in luring subscribers into this illegal activities.

Criminal charges against the suspects for violation of Republic Act 8484, also known as Access Device Act and PD 1612 Anti Fencing Law have already been filed in court, Castelo added.

Similar to other arrest made in the past, the modus operandi has been to pull-out the WIMAX modem from legitimate subscribers on pretext of an upgrade. The modems are then reconfigured and sold at a one-time cost payment.

Castelo emphasized that legitimate subscription of Globe products and services are available through Globe-authorized sellers and distributors as well as in numerous Globe Stores nationwide.

How to Downgrade BM622 - TUTORIAL

Medyo tricky po ito, advise ko lang po is you have to follow what is written below. First of all is we have to make it sure that we are able to access or connect the Huawei BM622 4G WiMAX wireless broadband modem CPE by verifying through pinging the IP address 192.168.1.1 via CLI (command line interface) or thru web GUI (graphical user interface) on browser with same IP address at http://192.168.1.1 to make it realistic.

Whether or not the Huawei BM622 4G WiMAX wireless broadband modem CPE enable/disable its DHCP server we have also to verify our PC if we are using Dynamic or Static IP address to anticipate if the CPE device reboots failed to provide IP address or the PC itself can not acquire its IP address.

Static IP address is more preferable during TFTP firmware uploading operation to make it sure we are in the same IP address subnet and our PC is still connected even if the CPE device fail its DHCP server during power on.

To start with, the PC must be ON with the Static IP address above mention. Power off the CPE device Huawei BM622, unplug the AC/DC adapter then plug it again and remain the power is OFF.
1. Click START and RUN, then typecmdto open windows CLI (command line interface) mode
2. Typecd\to change directory i.g.C:\
3. Make sure yourbm622firmware2010.binis in local drive C:\
4. Typetftp –i 192.168.1.1 put bm622firmware2010.binas you can see from the screenshot below, wait DO NOT press enter yet until to do so.

5. Make sure or double check that the LAN cable is physically connected to the PC and to the CPE device Huawei BM622 port.
6. Using a pin or sharp item insert onto the pin hole and press the “Reset” button at the side of the CPE device Huawei BM622 as shown below snapshot.

7. Press the Power ON button of the Huawei BM622 while still pressing the "Reset" button.
8. Release the “Reset” button of the Huawei BM622 and press Enter to begin the TFTP firmware downgrade/upgrade.
9. Please wait for 1 (one) minute and reboot the modem.
10. Press “Reset” while BM622 is ON.
11. Open your browser type http://192.168.1.1 to verify or check if your firmware is already being uploaded, just do same procedure if it is unsuccessful. This tutorial is if you want to downgrade or upgrade your BM622 firmware via TFTP, this can be also applied to 4G WiMAX CPE Huawei model BM621, BM622i, BM625, and BM626.

How to Test Electrolytic Capacitor - Tutorial

Written By Admin on Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5:30 PM

The best way of testing a capacitor will depends to the type of capacitor you are going to test. Electrolytic capacitors that are leaky are not so common. You can take each capacitor out on the circuit and test it using a cap checker or using your VOM, but in-circuit testing of the capacitor is quicker and save a lot of time.

Do a visual observation and inspection to the capacitor and see if there are any electrolytic capacitor are bulging (they are leaky and commonly get hot), or physically leaking (corroded terminals). Next, if the unit will power up, search for indications of an open filter caps, hum bars in the display/picture, hum in audio, flickering displays, low B+ but nothing gets hot, etc.

If you have an noticeable fault, like a lowered vertical scan on a TV set or monitor for example, to locate the capacitor that is starting to open up, you can bridge each of them with another capacitor, one at a time and see if it fixes the problem. (Experience has taught me that bad electrolytics will not -usually- kill vertical sweep completely.) In a TV set that is several years old or more, there could be more than one cap dried out (open). Check them all.

As mentioned before, leaky caps are actually quite rare, but it does happen. Shorted tantalums and electrolytics capacitors in a power supplies can actually explode. Obviously, leaky caps must be taken out from the circuit to replace them for test reasons.

Most of the other types of small capacitors: mylar, disc ceramic, etc. are pretty rugged. It is rare indeed to find them bad. It happens just often enough to keep a tech humble. But I also encounters that this small caps are the culprit, and the problem is that they are get leaky.

Here is diagram of the wiring of a Piso Net, which is popular here in the Philippines by using a PC with a Timer and Coin Slot to operate an Internet Cafe even without supervision because it is made to operate automatically. The main issue here is what signal or power source that you will cut to switch it using a relay.
