Uploaders of Marjorie Barreto Nude pictures face jail

Written By Admin on Thursday, May 30, 2013 | 5:46 PM

MANILA - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed on Thursday that it is investigating those who uploaded naked photos of actress Marjorie Barretto on the Internet.

NBI Cybercrime Division head agent Ronald Aguto said uploaders of Barretto’s naked photos could be charged with violation of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.

“Our objective is to find out who uploaded the pictures. In the law, it is not just the one who first uploaded. You could be the second, third or whatever, but as long as you upload on the Internet, you are liable,” he told radio dzMM.

Aguto said the NBI Cybercrime Division has received many complaints about individuals whose former partners posted sexy pictures or videos of them online.

Violators of the Anti-Voyeurism Law could face imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine of P500,000.

Barretto earlier confirmed that the woman in the sexy photos is her, adding that the leak of the photos which were taken years ago was meant to shame her.

If you're having problems downloading Chrome using the standard installer at http://www.google.com/chrome, try downloading the browser using an alternate installer, available through the links below.

These alternate installers don’t require network connection to install Chrome, so you can install Chrome while being offline. Once installed, Chrome will attempt to automatically update whenever it detects that a newer version of the browser is available. However, your network configuration may prevent the browser from updating properly. It's recommended that you bookmark this page and come back periodically to manually download newer versions of Chrome. HTC One Full Specs, features, price in the Philippines

As bumpy and controversial the ride may have been, the HTC One, a make-or-break smartphone for the Taiwan-based phone maker, has nonetheless reached Philippine shores. Officially (official), that is, following a not-just-for-media unveiling at one of Bonifacio Global City's swankiest addresses.

HTC's breadwinner is obviously no stranger to Android enthusiasts, largely because of its Apple-inspired, machined-aluminum housing. Of course, it helps that the One is widely regarded as the most beautiful and finely crafted unibody Android handset.

Its insides are downright desirable, too, boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset armed with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor; Adreno 320 graphics; and 2GB of RAM. At 32GB, internal storage should be plenty. However, take note that the HTC One does not carry microSD expansion.

HTC One

The screen measures 4.7 inches diagonally and uses an improved iteration of IPS-LCD technology. As is customary for signature phones, it is smothered by a sheet of scratch-resistant cover glass. Better still, it boasts 1080p resolution, resulting in the most pixel-dense panel (469ppi) we've laid eyes on.

Also on tap are the following: Android Jelly Bean, albeit hardly recognizable courtesy of HTC's Sense UI; 4- and 2.1-megapixel rear and front cameras; WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and NFC modules; and Beats-enhanced front-facing integrated speakers.

The phone is powered by a 2,300mAh lithium-polymer battery, so it likely has enough juice to get you through a full day with normal usage.

The high-end HTC One will fetch an equally premium price of P32,990—P2,000 more than its fiercest Android flagship rival, Samsung's Galaxy S4, might we add—and is slated to go on sale on May 24.

HTC One specs:
  •     LTE
  •     Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600 chipset
  •     Quad-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 CPU
  •     Adreno 320 GPU
  •     2GB RAM
  •     32/64GB internal storage
  •     No memory-card slot
  •     4.7-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels, 469ppi pixel density, and Corning Gorilla Glass 2
  •     4-megapixel ("ultrapixel" in marketing speak) main camera with auto-focus and LED flash
  •     2.1-megapixel secondary camera that can shoot HD videos at 30fps, has HDR
  •     Beats Audio sound enhancement
  •     Infrared port
  •     Non-removable Li-Po 2300mAh battery
  •     137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3mm

ASUS Fonepad

Next to smartphones, tablets—iPads and Android-based 7- to 8-inchers, in particular—are the rage these days. And why not? The tablet segment has become one of the darlings of mobile computing, with more major manufacturers trying to bridge the divide between laptops and tablets with hybrid devices. However, one thing most tablets lack is telephony—you know, voice-calling and text-messaging capabilities.

ASUS sees a burgeoning niche in the Philippines, where consumers are keen on using their tablet/phone mash-ups as phones, and so here we have the Intel-powered ASUS Fonepad. The 7-inch device is capable of doing what many people clamor for: running apps, browsing the Web, and watching videos, with the option of making calls and sending messages on a larger-than-smartphone form factor.

The Fonepad comes with a pretty reasonable P14,995 price tag and should be available in stores nationwide in "champagne gold" and "titanium gray" color schemes starting next week. Is it worth your consideration?

Our only gripe at this point is that it requires considerably more effort to slide out, especially on the first few tries. Then again, you'll hardly find yourself struggling to push the cover out, granted you're not keen on switching between carriers and memory cards.

A comparison of dimensions between the ASUS Fonepad and the ASUS-made Nexus 7 reveals that the two are nearly identical in size and weight, with the former being slightly shorter (196.4mm versus the Nexus 7's 198.5mm). Consequently, the Fonepad lends well to single-handed use despite its chunky bezels and thick, beveled sides.

Of course, its unnecessarily bloated hardware may be a sticking point for some, although products on the pudgy side are a norm in the Android scene.

Display

The ASUS Fonepad's IPS-LCD panel measures 7 inches diagonally, and its resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels on a 16:10 aspect ratio is on a par with what we've seen on the Google Nexus 7.

The resulting pixel density is 216ppi, and the clarity showcased here is enough to provide a decent movie watching experience. Photos and websites, likewise, boast natural and vivid colors, except that in some cases, blues seem to stand out more than other hues.

The 10-point multi-touch screen is covered by toughened, albeit reflective, glass, which is largely to blame for the Fonepad's modest sunlight legibility. That said, if you plan on using this hybrid for long stretches of time outdoors, make sure to do so where there's a lot of shade. However, viewing angles shouldn't be an issue because the screen offers decent views from most angles.

Should you feel that a bit of display tweaking is in order, you'd be pleased to know that ASUS bundles the Fonepad with Splendid. The app allows you to adjust saturation, hue, and color temperature, depending on your preference. There's also the so-called Vivid mode, which automatically boosts colors based on an ASUS-optimized profile, so no input is required.

Specs and performance

As already mentioned, the Fonepad wields an Intel SoC [system on chip], which is currently not the popular choice among chief players in the mobile world. And there's totally nothing wrong with that, as we'd soon find out. This ASUS is the first Intel Atom device we've thoroughly tested, and it does not disappoint.

The Intel Atom Z-Series silicon inside this gear is single-core, with a clock rate of 1.6GHz and Hyper-Threading technology, which enables the CPU core to perform two tasks simultaneously.

There's Imagination Technologies' PowerVR SGX540 graphics, 1GB of RAM, and a generous 32GB of storage onboard, which you can augment via microSD expansion for an extra 32GB of space, bringing the total to 64GB. Unsurprisingly, the tablet packs WiFi, 3G, and Bluetooth 3.0 radios as well.

Another highlight: The ASUS Fonepad has a Glonass-capable aGPS receiver, allowing for improved satellite signal detection and more precise tracking. We fired up Google Maps with GPS on and found that Glonass indeed delivers on its promises. The phone/tablet had no problems figuring out where we are, accurately at that, even indoors.

Hardware performance, for the most part, is top-notch. The Fonepad's Intel chip really shines in daily operation simply because almost everything happens rather quickly. For example, scrolling is noticeably silky-smooth, and transitions and animations occur with minimal hesitation. There's also a lag-free experience when flicking between home screens and jumping in and out of apps.

All these coming from a single-core SoC makes it all the more impressive.

With an aging PowerVR SGX 540 GPU in tow, it's expected that this Taiwan-bred tab-phone would deliver a modest gaming experience, and as such, casual games—the Temple Runs and Angry Birds of the Play store—should behave without jerks and stutters. In contrast, more graphically taxing titles like Dungeon Hunter 4 and Shadow Gun: Deadzone 2.0 will give the device a hard time.

It's worth pointing out that the ASUS Fonepad runs a moderately skinned Android Jelly Bean overlay that's mostly clean and pleasing to look at. Better yet, the cosmetic changes don't seem to have a negative effect on the user experience. In other words, ASUS' take on Jelly Bean doesn't slow down the machine a bit, something we can't say about many Android-based UIs we've come across.

Running benchmark tests resulted in mixed scores, as shown below. Vellamo Mobile, which evaluates browser performance, among other things, recurrently crashed on us, possibly because of incompatibilities with Intel's Atom architecture.

The ASUS Fonepad has a pair of cameras which are capable of video recording. One feels more obligatory than the other, though, meaning you probably won't use it much. The 1.2-megapixel front-facer is fine for selfies in bright sunlight and video chats, and nothing more, as images taken with the front cam have middling sharpness and colors.

The 3-megapixel rear shooter, in spite of its slightly great megapixel count, is far worse in comparison. We'll let the photos do the talking from here, which should only help to drive our points further home. Needless to say, photography is one of the Fonepad's compromises.

Call quality is excellent on both ends. Voice calls with or without a Bluetooth headset came out fairly loud. We didn't experience dropped calls during testing, too. One thing to note about the retail package, though: Oddly, and in a negative sense, the call-capable Fonepad does not come with its own headset.

ASUS' phone-tablet hybrid packs a 4,270mAh lithium-polymer battery, which is hardly standard fare for 7-inchers. It's quite nice, actually, topping out at about one and a half days of normal use. With power-saving mode on and 3G networks sparingly used, runtime could easily be extended for up to two full days.

In our looped-video battery-endurance test, the ASUS Fonepad averaged close to 10 hours---about an hour longer than the official video playback time for the device. That's at half brightness, with WiFi and app syncing on.

Verdict

So, what's our verdict? Well, if you've been keeping pace with us, you already know that the ASUS Fonepad is impressive. And it's not surprising; after all, ASUS is largely responsible for the value-for-money Google Nexus 7.

Because of its tempting tag price, finely crafted aluminum housing, and Hyper-Threading Intel processor which somehow manages to exceed expectations (and ultimately redefine our perception of single-core computing), this phone-tablet hybrid has earned our strong recommendation.

There are only two major drawbacks to the device. First, both cameras are subpar—even for tablets—lacking brightness, focus, and all the other good stuff quality shots are made of. Second, its gaming performance leaves a bit to be desired, as evidenced by the sluggish gameplay of some high-end games we've tested.

Again, this is to be expected on a device sporting an aging PowerVR SGX 540 graphics chip. But given that there aren't any similar nice tablets that can make calls and send/receive texts in this price range, it's easier to forgive the Fonepad's shortcomings.

All told, the ASUS Fonepad is a fantastic package. Make no mistake: it's a serious contender that should please would-be tablet, smartphone, and tab-phone shoppers alike.

PROS:

*Reasonable price tag
*Loud integrated speaker
*Premium appearance
*Decent screen
*Generous internal memory
*Top-notch hardware performance
*Accurate GPS tracking
*Excellent call quality
*Long battery life

CONS:

*Reflective glass
*Aging GPU
*Underwhelming cameras
*Lacks headset

Xbox One New Gaming Console

Written By Admin on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 | 8:33 AM

Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled its eagerly awaited new generation Xbox One videogame console, touting it as a home entertainment hub that goes far beyond games.

"Today, we put you at the center of a new generation in the living room," said Don Mattrick, head of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, unveiling the new version of the popular game console.

The beefed-up hardware is powered by software that allows for instant switching between games, television, and Internet browsing, according to Mattrick. Skype was also integrated for online video calls.

Kinect motion and sound sensing accessories accompanying the consoles will recognize users and respond instantly to commands spoken in more natural language, according to Microsoft executives.

"This is the beginning of a new generation of games and entertainment and a new generation of smart TV," said Microsoft entertainment unit executive Yusuf Mehdi.

Microsoft played to longtime Xbox fans with glimpses of blockbuster games including "Call of Duty Ghosts" and "FIFA" football being tailored for the new consoles.

A beloved "Halo" science fiction shooter franchise was used to showcase the merging of television and videogame play in Xbox One.

Famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg signed on to produce a live-action "Halo" television series in partnership with gamemaker 343 Studio.

"For me, the 'Halo' universe is an amazing opportunity to be at the intersection where technology and myth-making meet to create something really exciting," Spielberg said in a video snippet played during the press event at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

Xbox One consoles will be released later this year, according to Mattrick, who did not disclose pricing details.

Microsoft has sold some 77 million Xbox 360 consoles since they hit the market in late 2005. Console rival Sony has sold about the same number of PlayStation 3 consoles.

Meanwhile, Nintendo sold nearly 100 million Wii consoles, which became hits due to innovative motion-sensing controls after their debut in 2006. However, demand for Nintendo's recently released Wii U consoles have been disappointing.

Sony announced a new generation PlayStation 4 system in February but spoke ambiguously about the device, leaving much to the imagination.

Sony on Monday released a YouTube video teasing its plans to show off the PS4 in Los Angeles on June 10, the night before the annual video game conference E3 officially gets underway.

The PS4, which is also to hit the market by the end of this year, will succeed PlayStation 3 consoles that began their lifespan in late 2006.

"Microsoft wins the next-gen game console launch wars by launching something that the company doesn't even call a console," said Forrester analyst James McQuivey.

"Where first Nintendo offered us a tablet to accompany the millions we had already bought and Sony then offered us a box that we couldn't even see, Microsoft has trumped them both by delivering the Xbox One."

Microsoft has apparently put its hardware and software mastery to effective use, bringing game controllers, tablets, smartphones, voice, and gesture together in the Xbox One, according to the analyst.

"Microsoft takes an unlikely trophy home today -- it can claim to be the winner of the race to build the best living room user experience available," McQuivey said.

"Very un-Microsoft, to be honest, and a pleasure to see."

Ai Ai Delas Alas Break up

MANILA -- Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas broke down on "The Buzz" on Sunday as she confirmed that she and her husband for a month, businessman Jed Salang, have already separated.

In an exclusive interview with host Boy Abunda, delas Alas revealed Salang physically abused her that made her decide to leave him last May 2.

Delas Alas said Salang changed since they got married in Las Vegas last April 3.

“Nung May 2, ang pinag-awayan talaga namin, gusto niya mag-monthsary kami sa casino. Ayaw ko na mag-casino siya kasi hindi naman healthy para sa kanya and hindi rin maganda para sa akin na nakikita ako sa casino. Sabi ko sa kanya doon na lang kami sa bahay or any hotel, huwag lang doon kasi may casino doon,” she said.

According to delas Alas, this disagreement prompted Salang to physically hurt her.

The Buzz" host Boy Abunda in the interview, which was taped early morning on Sunday.

Delas Alas said her decision to leave her husband was also prompted by confirmations of Salang's alleged real intentions in marrying her.

“Kasi mayroon siyang friend dati, siguro mga three months pa lang kami, siguro naawa siya sa akin or nakunsensya. Sinabi niya sa akin na may balak si Jed na papatulan lang ako and later on -- hindi ko masabi ang word pero kapag nagawa na niya iyon, iiwan na niya ako and may kakasamahin siyang iba,” she said.

“Noon ko nalaman iyon and ngayon ko na-confirm. Alam ko dahil from the very beginning ramdam ko naman iyon. Kaya lang natatakot ako sa totoo and natatakot ako dahil alam ko kapag nalaman ko 'yung totoo, sobrang sakit,” she added.

Delas Alas said she still loves Salang but it is not enough to compensate all the pain that he has caused her.

“Alam ko naman ide-deny lahat iyon pero alam ko kahit i-deny niya sa akin, sa buong mundo, hindi nila puwede i-deny sa [Diyos] iyon. Alam ni God kung anong pinagdaanan ko at alam niya kung anong ginawa niya sa akin,” she said.

Delas Alas also tearfully said she believes Salang never loved her.

“Sa lahat ng nalaman ko, tingin ko hindi. Kahit kailan hindi [niya ako minahal],” she said as she broke down in tears.

Delas Alas said she will leave it up to her lawyers to take all the legal steps, including a possible divorce.

How To Downgrade iPhone 3GS iOS 6.1.3 To iOS 5.1.1 Without SHSH Blobs

Thanks to iFaith you can downgrade iOS 6.1.3 without SHSH blobs to 5.1.1 or with locally saved blobs by Tinyumbrella to 6.1.2. As for me I don’t have blobs from TinyUmbrella so I used that iFaith gave me.
Last time I wrote about how to dump SHSH blobs and create custom firmware using iFaith. But here is a little different method and I tried it myself on 3GS.

I know that iOS 5.1.1 is not 6.1.2 / 6.0 but you can have untethered jailbreak with Absinthe 2.x tool to enjoy your favored tweaks and go back iOS 6.1.3 after known hackers will release new tool for this version.

Requirenments
  • iFaith 1.5.6
  • iReb r7
  • iOS 5.1.1 / 6.1.2 firmware (optional)
  • Saved SHSH blobs with TinyUmbrella (only for downgrade to iOS 6.1.2)
  • iPhone 3GS (but you can try it other supported devices)
  • iTunes, better the latest.
If you will try to use Cydia SHSH blobs for iOS 6.1.2 you will stuck in Soft DFU mode after Shift / Restore in iTunes. You need to fix this issue because during restore iPhone to custom firmware you will receive 1600 /1/2/3/4 error and iReb won’t help.
How to Fix Soft DFU Mode

1. The first thing that you should do is to hold two iPhone buttons (Home and Power) 10-30 seconds. Release Home button and then Power. If this doesn’t help you can try the second method that worked for me.
2. Do a “clean” restore in iTunes without Shift and other additional actions. Only after you will restore iPhone to the newest firmware again because you can downgrade iOS 6.1.3 to 5.1.1 here below.
Attention: this guide is only for factory unlocked iPhone. If your unlock doesn’t depend on baseband you can follow this guide. If not, unlock iOS 6.1.3 iPhone first and then you can look for untethered jailbreak.
Use iFaith Signed IPSW for iOS 6.1.3 Downgrading to 5.1.1 on iPhone 3GS

Step 1. First download iFaith 1.5.6 and unzip it.
Step 2. Run iFaith as administrator. Click “Show Available SHSH Caches on Server” and connect your iPhone 3GS to PC using USB.
Step 3. After the program detects your device choose the blobs you need. In my case I choose for iOS 5.1.1 because iFaith gives error if you choose for 6.1.2.
Step 4. Download selected blobs.
Step 5. Now go to the main menu and choose “Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs” and then “Browse for SHSH Blobs” and choose SHSH file you need.
Step 6. Now you can choose or downloaded earlier iOS 5.1.1 firmware on your computer or allow iFaith to do it for you.
Step 7. After which iFaith starts to create iOS 5.1.1 custom firmware for 3GS, so relax and don’t interrupt the process. This firmware file will be saved on your desktop.
Step 8. Turn off your iPhone and download iReb r7. Unzip it, run as administrator.
Step 9. Choose your device from the list in iReb and prepare to enter DFU mode.[IMG]
Step 10. After you will see the message to connect to iTunes, launch this program and holding Shift click the Restore button. Choose the file saved in step 7 and wait till the end of the process.
Now you ca see that your iPhone is running iOS 5.1.1 after iOS 6.1.3 downgrading with iFaith. The last thing you need to do is to wait for new untethered jailbreak for 6.1.3 firmware version.

Two Wimax Seller Arrested in buy-bust operations

MANILA, Philippines – Two suspected hackers were arrested in buy-bust operations in Quezon City, police said.
The suspects, Joseph Calderon and Rodel Ancheta, were allegedly involved in illegally re-activating Globe WiMax modems.
Calderon was first arrested inside a fastfood restaurant along Quirino Avenue on May 15.
Ancheta, on the other hand, was caught while re-activating the modem of a poseur customer on Litex Road, Brgy. Commonwealth.
Authorities said the two suspects charge P5,000 for the modems that come with unlimited internet use.
"Mahirap mabisto ang naturang modus kaya't nagpanggap na bibili ng reactivated internet broadband ang isang pulis sa suspek na nahuli sa isang buy- bust operation," said National Capital Region Police Office Director Leonardo Espina.
The suspects will face charges for violating Republic Act 8484 (Access Device Act), Republic Act 8792 (E-commerce Act), and the Presidential Decree 1612 (Anti- fencing Law) with a fine of P24, 000 to P100,000 punishable by imprisonment of 6 years or more with no probation.
Globe sought the help of police after noticing a decline in sales.
"Ipagpatuloy natin ang pagtutulungan upang maaresto ang ibang sangkot sa mga iligal na gawain katulad nito at hindi natin sila hahayaang makapangbiktima ng iba pang mga kumpanya," said Espina. -- Report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News

Nancy Binay Snubs Proclamation

Written By Admin on Friday, May 17, 2013 | 5:53 PM

MANILA, Philippines — Why was Nancy Binay a no-show at her own proclamation as a first-ever senator?
The running joke, she acknowledged on Friday, was that she was actually at the Philippine International Convention Center where the Commission on Elections proclaimed the top six winners of last Monday’s senatorial race.
But after consulting with her lawyers, Binay said, she realized the “prudent thing to do” was to wait until “every vote has been considered.”
“After thinking and soul searching, if ever this would be my first proclamation, I wanted there to be no question on my proclamation,” Binay said during a press conference Friday.
“For my own peace of mind, I want that the final result is truly the will of the people,” she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “I was not comfortable that I would be proclaimed in this manner.”
Binay said she was looking for a “definitive” victory in her first attempt at an elective position.
And with only 72 out of the 304 certificates of canvass considered by the National Board of Canvasses, she said the 5.7 million votes she had garnered were still far from showing the real picture.
The 72 CoCs accounted for only 13,384,981 voters, a far cry from the 52 million registered voters.
“Who knows? It might even turn out later on that I don’t belong in the first six, that I am in fact in the second half [of the Magic 12],” she said.
Binay insisted she did not skip her own proclamation because her United Nationalist Alliance  had asked the Comelec to defer the proclamation of all 12 winners until certain issues had been resolved.
Having been criticized for the slow pace of the canvassing, the Comelec promptly junked the UNA petition and proceeded with the proclamation.
Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, UNA secretary general, said the proclamation set a “bad precedent,” noting that the Comelec did not say how many votes the winning candidates had actually garnered. There was also no mention of their actual rankings, he said.
“What if they do this again in 2016? We would have a new president without knowing how many votes he got and just because the Comelec said he won,” he told the Inquirer in a separate interview.
Asked about UNA’s next move, he said: “Nahihilo na nga yung mga lawyers namin [Our lawyers are getting dizzy].”
Binay noted that even in local elections, winners were not proclaimed until most of the votes had been canvassed.
“Of course, I’m thankful that I was named a winner,” she said, “but it’s difficult when they are not doing what is supposed to be done.”
Tiangco, who has won a second term, cited his own experience when he had to wait for another six hours before he was finally proclaimed, all because the Comelec waited for the last remaining CoCs. With a report from Matikas Santos, INQUIRER.net

Taiwan Freeze Hiring Philippines looking for alternative for Pinoy Workers

After Taiwan froze the processing of the work permits of new Filipino workers, Malacañang on Friday said the Philippine government is looking for manufacturing-heavy markets that can absorb workers.

“The Department of Labor (and Employment, DOLE) has been looking into alternative markets. If you recall, this is not the first time that we’ve dealt with this sort of sanction and the Labor department has been looking into alternative markets because if you look at the figures, 72 percent of our OFWs in Taiwan are employed in the manufacturing sector,” Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a briefing.

According to the DOLE, out of an estimated 85,185 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan, 72 percent are working in the manufacturing sector/factories; 26 percent in personal/social services and 2 percent in the fishermen sector.

“The way that the Labor department looks at it, by looking for other alternative markets, would be to see which other markets also have a high number or a high openings for manufacturing sector,” Valte added, saying the DOLE has identified at least three countries that fit the criteria.

“That would be South Korea, another alternative would be the Middle East, and also to some extent Malaysia. In light of what has happened, the Labor department has deemed if fit to look into other alternative markets that are capable of absorbing the number of OFWs who may wish to come back or who may have to leave their places of employment,” Valte said.

Strained relations

Relations between the Philippines and Taiwan have been strained by the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman by Philippine Coast Guards in disputed waters on May 9.

The falling out has triggered Taiwan to freeze the hiring of Filipino workers on Wednesday.

Alleged acts of discrimination against Filipinos  in Taiwan have also been reported.
Filipinos in Taiwan were advised Friday to stay home or at least commute directly between home and work while emotions are still high over the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by Philippine authorities in disputed waters earlier this month.

Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Amadeo Perez Jr. also said his office is monitoring and documenting cases of "hate" assaults by Taiwanese on Filipinos.

"Emotional ang tao, mataas ang tension. Huwag muna lumabas sa tirahan nyo. Kumain kayo sa loob ng bahay, (at mag-commute) from your house to work muna. Sinabihan namin ang lahat na Pilipino," Perez said in an interview over radio dzBB.

Valte said the Philippine government continues to investigate reports of discrimination and abuse, noting that the government’s main priority is the safety of Filipinos there.

“Our primary concern would be to first, for the welfare of our citizens who are there; and second, the possible effect that the sanctions may have on our OFWs who are there.
Remember that one of the sanctions would be to freeze hiring,” Valte said.

“I understand that in a year, mga 30,000 ‘yung pumupunta doon that doesn’t include those who are already there. ‘Yun po ‘yung tinitingnan natin. What assistance can be extended to those who may wish to return; and second, are there alternative markets that we can offer to them once they come home,” Valte said. - VVP, GMA News

Windows Phones still struggling to attract apps

Written By Admin on Thursday, May 16, 2013 | 6:21 PM

Nokia's head of smartphone marketing admits that gaps in the app selection are customers' main complaints.

With the launch of its latest flagship device, the Lumia 925, Nokia and Microsoft are continuing to prove that they can compete directly with anything Samsung, Apple or BlackBerry can build in terms of quality, processor speed and performance; however, there is still one area in which the Windows Phone 8 platform, and therefore all device manufacturers using the system, from Nokia to ZTE and HTC cannot match the competition, and that's apps.

So much so that despite Microsoft's best efforts to court the world's biggest tech companies and most respected developers, getting blue-chip apps on its mobile phone platform is still an uphill struggle. At Monday's Nokia Lumia 925 launch in London, Nokia's Global Head of Smartphone marketing, Vesa Jutila, revealed to Engadget that "the biggest complaint is that customers are missing the apps they want," when asked about the relative poverty of its offerings compared with Apple's App Store and Google Play. However, Jutila also claimed that Microsoft and Nokia are working to address the issue.
When the Windows Phone 8 platform launched, Google made it very clear that it had no intentions of building apps for its operating system. Six months after the first Windows Phone 8 devices hit the shelves, the only way to access Google Maps, Google Search or Gmail is via the browser. However, the most notable absence, especially from a range of phones that offer incredible photographic capabilities, is a native Instagram app.

A greater volume of handsets in circulation will help in this respect: the more consumers that buy a Windows smartphone, the more companies will build apps for it. However, at the moment it's a catch-22 situation -- potential customers might be put off making the change to Windows because of the lack of certain apps, and unless more consumers buy Windows phones, the number of blue-chip apps in its store is very unlikely to increase.

According to the latest figures from Gartner, published Tuesday, consumers bought a total of 5.98 million Windows Phone handsets in the first quarter of 2013, (5.1 million of which were Nokia Lumia phones), which represents a 100 percent increase on the last quarter of 2012. Over the same period, 156.1 million Android handsets were sold (74.4% of the global market) and 38.3 million iPhones, giving the premium Apple smartphone an 18.2 percent global share, compared with Microsoft's 2.9 percent.

Still, there is some good news for Nokia Lumia handset owners. The Nokia Smart Camera suite of image effects that were demonstrated alongside the launch of its new European flagship phone, the Lumia 925, will be coming to all existing Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 handsets as part of a sofwarre update. Called the "Nokia Lumia Update" it will start rolling out to handsets in July.

May 15 Brgy Genebra wins vs Alaska Finals Game 1of 5

The Alaska Aces rode a hot start to cruise to an 87-70 victory over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the opening match of the Commissioner’s Cup championship round Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
For Alaska’s veteran players, the 1-0 advantage is a huge deal in a short series.
“Sobrang laking bagay ng Game One sa best-of-five series kasi kapag nanalo ka ulit sa Game Two isa na lang champion ka na,” said guard Dondon Hontiveros.
“It’s huge winning first game of best-of-five series,” added center Sonny Thoss. “Game Two is going to be just important so we need to stay focused.”
Hontiveros said that Alaska was the fresher team heading into the series, and it showed in the opening period of Game One, which saw the Aces outscore the Gin Kings, 28-6.
“I think fatigue factor has something to do with Ginebra’s slow start. They’re coming off five games versus Talk ‘N Text which loves to run. Pero we played good defense on [Ginebra import Vernon] Macklin early in the game,” said Hontiveros.

The two men are wary of Ginebra’s trademark never-say-die spirit, which has allowed the Gin Kings to rebound from a 0-4 start in the conference before winning four do-or-die playoff games to reach the finals.
“Hindi pa rin dapat mag-relax kasi yung Ginebra capable of coming back just like they did in the third and fourth quarter,” said Hontiveros.
“Ginebra is gonna come out strong in Game Two,” added Thoss.

Marjorie Barreto Knows Who Leaked Her Photos

Written By Admin on Sunday, May 12, 2013 | 10:17 PM

Gretchen Barretto revealed that her sister Marjorie knows who is behind the photo scandal which broke last week.
Speaking on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Gretchen said she her sister plans to break her silence after the elections on Monday.
“Alam ni Marjorie [who is behind this]. Actually tinanong ko si Marjorie on the phone last night. Sabi ko ‘Marj, what are you going to do with this situation?’ Sabi niya 'Gretchen, hintayin natin na matapos ang eleksyon. Magsasalita ako, ilalabas ko kung ano ang dapat ilabas. Wala akong tinatago, mayroon lang akong mga pinoprotektahan,'” Gretchen said.
According to Gretchen, her younger sister is still coping after her sexy photos made the rounds online last week without her consent.

“May mga oras na okay siya, may mga oras na hindi siya okay. Yes, she admitted na siya yung sa photos,” she said.
Meanwhile, Marjorie told “The Buzz” on Sunday that she chooses not to dwell on negativity for the sake of her children.
“Lahat ng mommy laging may pagdadaanan sa buhay. Hindi madaling maging nanay. Hindi rin madaling maging isang tao. Pero 'pag tayong mga mommy, may dumating na pagsubok sa atin, we have no choice but to get up immediately dahil may mga anak tayong umaasa sa atin,” she said.
Marjorie said she is fortunate to have strong children who are helping cope during this difficult time.
“Once you're a mother, you no longer own yourself. Siguro you'll give yourself one, two to three days to cry. After that, you pick up yourself and then life goes on kasi may mga anak ka. Malalakas naman ang loob ng mga anak ko so walang dahilan para hindi ako maging matapang din,” she said.

Charice Pempengco resurfaces, sings 'Kisapmata'

Amid the 21-year-old singer's puzzling absence from showbiz, a video of her candidly singing the OPM favorite was uploaded Thursday on video-sharing site YouTube by user mico malonzo.
In the video, a short-haired Charice appears to be waiting as band instruments are being set up.
Charice is still sporting the same short haircut while dressed casually in a t-shirt and pants.
As of writing, the video already had over 14,000 views.
Charice, who rose to fame in 2007 after a YouTube video of her singing landed her US TV guestings, has recently become the subject of headlines for her fashion choices and numerous makeovers.
Her last project on television was the Philippine edition of the reality singing contest "The X Factor," which aired on ABS-CBN from June to October 2012.
Since then, however, the singer has largely disappeared from local showbiz, with only a number of viral photos of her latest look serving as traces as to Charice's whereabouts.
Recent photos of her on social media show the former "Glee" star sporting a short hairstyle and supposedly masculine outfits, prompting speculations as to whether they are indicative of her alleged sexual preference.
On Friday, her mother Raquel Pempengco addressed a reported planned announcement of Charice on her sexual preference.
"Ang sinasabi ng puso ko at isip ko bilang ina ay hayaan ko siyang ilantad kung ano ang tunay na katauhan niya. Kung ano ang gusto niya, dahil doon siya magiging maligaya," Pempengco said.

Nokia Lumia 520 Philippine Price for only Php7,990

Nokia Philippines just announced the availability of the cheapest Windows Phone 8 smartphone – Nokia Lumia 520. Launched at Mobile World Congress back in February, the Lumia 520 gained a lot of traction towards potential Windows Phone 8 users as it offers an incredibly low price tag despite its fairly good specs.
Nokia Lumia 520

As a refresher, the Nokia Lumia 520 packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB of RAM, and an Adreno 305 GPU. It flaunts a decent 4-inch IPS display with WVGA resolution which results to around 235 ppi. It also has 8GB of internal which is easily expandable up to 32GB via a microSD. Other key features are the 5-megapixel autofocus camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, and GPS. The only thing that you might miss here is the lack of front-facing camera but that’s really not an issue to most users.

Nokia Asha 501Specs & Features with a taste of Lumia

Nokia offiically announced the new Nokia Asha 501, a touch-based smartphone with a $99 price. It’s the first in its lineup to run a refreshed operating system bearing close resemblance to the canceled MeeGo OS and comes with a 3-inch screen and a 3.2-megapixel rear camera.

The most notable feature is its standby battery life, which the Finnish company guarantees to last an incredible 48 days for the single-SIM configuration. The dual-SIM model, on the other hand, can last as long as 26 days.
Nokia considers the Asha 501 to be a smartphone. However, specs such as 2G connectivity and a less sophisticated operating system might dissuade some people to think of the phone as “smart.” If anything, the Asha 501 should be labeled as a smart feature phone.

Nokia Asha 501

Considered to be another emerging market, the Philippines might just receive its own 501 launch as well in the coming months. In fact, the phone is slated to ship in June in over 90 countries all over the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America. We’ll let you know once it hit our local stores. If converted directly, the Nokia Asha 501 will be priced for around Php4,000 without taxes and subsidies.
